The question is, "Is it worth the time and effort to become a better person?" Personal growth and development is a key to anyone having success in any endeavor. Failure, in the words of Jim Rohn "is small errors in judgement repeated every day." It sneaks up on us if we let it because it's not something that is tangible that we can see. Failure is the result of not knowing where we are going and not having a clear path drawn out for us. To avoid failure, we need to make good decisions to do what we know will help us move forward and then manage those decisions daily.
John Maxwell who is the world's authority on leadership has an incredible book called "Today Matters." In his book he talks about managing the decisions that we make. Most of us have no problem making good decisions to either go to the gym because we are going to get in shape this year, or save more money, or eat better. Why is it that when we make those decisions for a new years resolution, by February, we lose motivation and get away from doing those things? It is because we fail to manage the decisions we made. See, successful people make good decisions at an early age and then spend the rest of their lives managing those decisions. That is what makes them successful.
Success is making the decision to start good success habits like, reading, listening to cd's, watching DVD's, doing things that will help us grow as a person and help us to become more than we are today. The key is once those decisions are made, to make them into daily habits. After several weeks, these practices then become habits which then become a lifestyle. If we want to become better, we must stretch. An elastic band un-stretched is useless.
These principles have had a profound effect on my life and the person I am becoming. I was the person who had incredible drive and great work ethic. I worked really hard and graduated High school a year and a half early. At the age of 21, I became the foreman of my uncle's landscaping company. I went to college and became the only Suchocki male in my family to ever get a BA. I accomplished all of this but it was only due to hard work and work ethic.
Who was the person I was becoming a long the way? During the day I worked hard to accomplish these things but at night I partied hard. I got wrapped up in the party scene and was hanging around with other people who wanted to party and have fun. Now there is nothing wrong with having fun. I, deep down had always wanted more out of life. I have always had this deep down passion for helping people. One day everything changed. My best friend at the age of 19 was killed in a car crash. That had a profound effect on my life and one day I decided enough was enough. And so began my personal development journey.
I began to engulf every book on personal development I could. I began to attend trainings that gave me the knowledge to be able to grow as a person. I learned that associations are the biggest driver in the person you will become. I learned that the only difference between the person I am now and the person I will be ten years from now is from the books I read and the people I hang around with. This has proven so true because the better I have become, the better people I have attracted around me and the better success habits I have developed.
Success is not a destination it is a journey. Along this journey so many things will happen, people will come and go, and you will become the person you never thought you could become. What success habits are you forming in your life? Who are you associating on a daily and weekly basis? Once I learned these simple truths, my life changed for ever. I am happier, more fulfilled, and better than I ever thought I would be all because I constantly strive to become a person with profound charecter and incredible success.
On a daily basis I manage those decisions I made to constantly grow and learn all I can.
Is it worth it for you? It won't be easy but what I have found is, IT IS WORTH IT!
